10 Things: Update Edition

Woohoo! Gonna start this blog thing again... alright! Yay!

Ummm... yah. About that. Trying to find time in the day is pretty much not happening. I do way too much as it is - blogging on top of everyhing, well, that just makes it that much crazier! I want to blog! I want to share all the fun things I'm doing, but I forget about it :( I suppose if I had a large following and there was some expectation or reward for doing it (like comments and people waiting on me to post) then I'd do it. Alright, I'll shut up now. Here's your 10 things :)

1. Mr. C and I are going to Europe in a little less than 3 weeks. Holy. Crap! I'm stoked about this!! We're headed to London for a Chelsea v. Manchester City soccer game, Amsterdam for the Heineken Experience and a few museums, Cologne, Germany for the Christmas Markets, the oldest pub in Germany, and the Chocolate museum... and, finally... the love of my life.... Paris :) for only a day but I'm sure it will be amazing. Ten absolutely stunning days await us...

2. Work has been crazy, crazy, crazy stressful. I've been pushing it to the max and somehow (I have no clue how!) been meeting all of my deadlines!

3. I've got a new roommate - and she's from the Netherlands. It's been a bit awkward getting adjusted between cultures, but I'd say we're getting along alright. I maintain that I'm just not a "roommate" kind of person... but I also can't fathom driving an hour to work where there's cheap rent in east bumble... or paying double. Since neither of those options work, I'm stuck with a roommate.

4. I finally purchased a few bookshelves from Ikea for my room. They're absolutely fantastic and they look exactly how I want them to. They're fit for boxes for all of my art stuff - and I can't wait until I have a house and can turn a room into an art studio.

5. Today, we spent half the day putting together a catering order and delivering it to a children's hospital nearby. It was an amazing experience. Sad, but so rewarding!

6. I've been listening to Parachute recently. They rock!

7. I'm patiently waiting for Black Friday to get here. On my list of things to find good deals on: Camera, flat screen TV, and luggage. The first and last are the most important, but the middle is the one I've wanted for the longest. Let's hope for some amazing deals!!

8. I'm meeting the parents on Wednesday. I'm anxious about it a bit, but I think it'll be fine :) Not just the parents... but the entire extended family. Yikes! Let's hope this goes well ;)

9. I have found pinterest. It consumes a lot of time. Perhaps if I blogged instead of pinning, I'd make more progress. But, then there's the whole picture-taking thing. I dunno. We'll see!

10. My mom turns 50 this year. I'm kind of excited for her and I want to do something super awesome for her... but I have NO idea!! Maybe a Red Hat Ladies party or something? Hmmm... we'll see.

Off to... eat, rest, relax, and possibly get into something crafty this evening!

;)

Music in the key of drunk...

Have you ever noticed that some songs just sound better when you’re drunk. For instance, you’re driving down the highway and a song has been played at least 4 times in your 20 minute jaunt to wherever you’re going – so you change it, and rarely listen to it.

But not when you’re drunk. That shit comes over the speakers, you get really happy, start to dance, sing all the lyrics… you know, the works.

Not something you do? Ok, well maybe it’s just me. ;)

I have a blackberry… love it. (minus the inability to have apps like shazaam) I keep a list in the “notes” section of things like books I see that I’d like to read, songs I need to download, blog topics, etc.

After this weekend, I found a few songs in there that I just didn’t know what the hell drunk me was trying to tell sober me. For instance:

Bep.

I can understand that means Black Eyed Peas…. But what song did I hear that was noteworthy enough to download? No clue.

My favorite…?

Midnight.

Haha! Wtf does that even mean?! Is it a lyric? A song title? Who the hell knows…

Heartbreak Warfare

Dear John,

My, my, my... you have done it again. I thought I lost you for so many years while you were away on this "Trio" shit. I never liked that side of you. Alas, you have returned to me and are starting to write meaningful lyric yet again.

You brought me through many days of circumstance back in my 'early 20's'. You made boys fall in love with my skin singing Your Body Is A Wonderland. You made me cry every time I heard Split Screen Sadness, and you sure as hell wrote every word for me. This, I know.

Your name was plastered on my myspace with quotes like "I can't really wait to figure out what's wrong with me, so I can say this is the way that I used to be" and "I can tell you this much I will marry just once and if it doesn't work out, give her half of my stuff. It's fine with me... we said eternity. And I will go to my grave with the life that I gave, not just some melody line on a radio wave... It dissipates and soon evaporates... but home life doesn't change"

But, no, the VERY first time I heard that sultry voice of yours, you related me to my high school years - no doubt while I was still in them - when I found out there was No Such Thing as the real world...

You brought it home when you talked about "driving up 85", because I was always driving up 85 when I needed some time to think, time to sort things out. Four more exits to my apartment changed each time I moved apartments, but it was always 85.

I can spot your voice from a mile away, and could probably relate every relationship I've had to one of your songs. And, this new one, Heartbreak Warfare, is oh-so-touching and exactly what I needed.

I heard your voice on the radio today and I knew it was you. You're back. I always knew you'd come back.

Love,
Me

Making Memories of Us

Ok, Ok... this post goes against everything I've ever said about my music preferences. I don't like to listen to country music. Period. There is one exception, though. Keith Urban is such a great singer and his songs aren't so much twangy country - but pop country.

So here you have it. Michael and I talked about this song last night - and it's exactly how I feel about him. <3

I'm gonna love you... like nobody loves you... I'll earn your trust making memories of us... I'm gonna be here for you from now on... this you know somehow... you've been stretched to the limits but it's alright now... and I'm gonna make you this promise... if there's life after this... I'm gonna be there to meet you with a warm, wet kiss.... ;)

It's just such a sweet song. Hooray for having the best boyfriend in the world!

Pandora.com

For the past year or two, I've listened to Pandora.com while at work and even at home while I'm just chillin. I have a few stations that cater to my selective music tastes and they continue to get even better over time.

Pandora.com is something they call the "music genome project" that guesses songs you would like based on the feedback you give it. It's a great way to find new music in the same genres you currently listen to, things you would have never discovered otherwise.

You put in the name of the song or artist that you like and go from there. If you don't like a song, you tell it. If you do, you tell it. Based on your feedback, you get a station of streaming music that plays only songs you like. It's actually really cool.

If you'd like for me to share my Kaskade station with you, I'm more than happy to... it's fabulous House music!

Check it out. www.pandora.com :)

Please Forgive Me

For whatever reason, I'm slightly obsessed with this song right now. Could be the lovely beat. Could be the words. Could be the sexy David Gray.

Just thought I would share :)

One Proud Fan

He did it. Today, Armin Van Buuren beat Tiesto for number 1 dj in the world. Pretty impressive, I might say. Oh yes.

I have met him, hung out with him all night even... in his DJ booth while he spun incredible beats as well as when the night was over. He was hilarious, and since the movie, Borat, was relatively new, we quoted lines all night. Quite fun, if you ask me.

I am absolutely in love with his State of Trance series that releases annually. Obviously, I like his other works, too, but there's just something about each ASOT that is more captivating than the one before it.

Pure bliss.

Steppin Out

Kaskade is by far my very favorite House DJ. Saturday night, he came to town and was going to rock my world at a local gay club/bar.

Now, I know what you're thinking, and no, I have no clue why it was there. The gay community seems to have a large following to house/trance music, so I presume that's how the venue was selected. We were, by far, not the only straight ones there. I've been to another show there and had a fabulous time.

Either way, because this was the venue of choice, the friends I had available to come with were slimming down. First, there was people that actually like the music. Then, there was more narrowing down to those who were comfortable going to a predominantly gay venue. This left me with 4 friends willing and able to join me to such a wonderful event.

Just one problem. They all have boyfriends. And, of course, doing what couples do best... occupying each others' time.

11:30 pm and I'm still sitting on the couch, completely depressed that my favorite house dj was in town (only happens maybe once a year, folks), scanning television shows i'd never been interested in before. There's a problem here.

**ring ring**

Well, if it isn't the lovely Mo. Such a great, great friend.

him: "Hey! What are you doing?!"
me: "oh nothing, just sitting on the couch watching some random tv. What about you?"
him: "Um? Isn't Kaskade tonight? Why aren't you there?"
me: "well, you see, I have just this one little problem... no one to go with"
him: "I'll go!"

I jumped up and down like a little girl who just found out her parents were taking her to Cinderella's Castle for the first time. I grabbed a cute outfit and ran out the door.

On my way downtown...

**ring ring**

Well, well... It's Trent.

him: "Hey there, what's up??"
me: "On my way to Kaskade! That's what's up!! What are you doing??"
him: "well, remember I told you I was going to a bachelor party tonight? I'm just not feelin it."
me: "Would you like to go to Kaskade with Mo and I?"
him: "sure."

And there you have it. Two straight men and I at a gay club watching my favorite DJ. Life couldn't get any better!!

Kaskade rocked the house, as usual, and played my all time favorite song, Steppin Out, a few minutes after we walked in. I was in absolute heaven!
